Passion for Life, Inc. is seeking an experienced and influential professional with an expertise and passion for accounting and/or finance to serve as Treasurer of the board and chair responsible for leading the Finance Committee.

Job Description

The Passion for Life, Inc Board ensures that the organization is fiscally responsible, accountable and sustainable. Another primary role of all Board Members is to assist with fundraising to ensure successful operational performance through leveraging of their network and contacts for the furthering of the organization's overall mission.

The Treasurer serves as Chair of the Finance Committee and will be responsible for the creating and leading the Finance team. The Chair will work in partnership with Executive Director and the Board of Directors as well as serve as liaison to the team. The Treasurer will focus on assisting the organization to optimize financial management and ensure optimal service to the Atlanta community.


In addition to board responsibilities, the Finance Committee Chair will oversee the following:

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning: Work in conjunction with the Executive Director, board and committee to create, develop and maintain financial management strategies Lead a collaborative team of up to 4 committee members to ideate, prioritize, develop and implement a comprehensive strategy and polices or the Financial compliance of Passion for Life, Inc.
  • Development: Responsible for building a team to develop plans to create internal policies and procedures to support all areas associated with finance and administration. Specific focus to include, but not limited to: finance, business planning and budgeting.
  • Budget and Financial Administration: Ensure that the appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are reviewed by the board. Ensure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis. Ensure that the organization maintains the appropriate financial books and records and that these are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Implementation: Will lead and provide guidance of team to assist with the execution of creating financial policies, implementing plans, educating committees and volunteers, and organization stakeholders.
  • Works with the Executive Director in preparing the annual budget and presenting to the Board for approval
  • Works with the Executive Director and finance committee to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis Oversees the development of Fiscal Policies for recommendation to the Board
  • Ensures that the financial policy and procedure manual is complete and compliant
  • Partners with the Fundraising committees to ensure appropriate management and tracking of grants and as well as ensure contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of funders
  • Time commitments and Accountabilities:
  • It is important that the candidate understands how much time it takes to serve on the Passion for Life, Inc board. Aside from regular meetings, board members are expected to also take charge of at least one committee or project and participate in the fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Term: 2 years
  • Time (approximate): A minimum time commitment of 10-12 hours per month
  • Monthly board meetings (2 hours)
  • Participate in committee meetings and related work (2-4) hours per month as determined by the committee)
  • Identify, linking other individuals and resources; meeting with potential donors/funders (2-3 hours monthly)
  • Attend Passion for Life, Inc. fundraising events and program functions (3-5 annually)
  • Qualifications
  • Passion and commitment to the organization’s mission and strategic directions
  • Extensive professional experience with significant senior leadership accomplishments in accounting and/or finance
  • Demonstrated success as a nonprofit board member or board
  • Demonstrated experience and a working knowledge of financial management, concepts, reporting and related tools
  • Ability to relate to financial concepts and to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior experience in nonprofit environment a plus

Board Dues: Board Members are required to pay annual dues
