Passion for Life (P4L) The mission of Passion for Life, Inc. is to help high school students identify their passions and talents, and create a plan to turn their passion into rewarding careers.

Passion for Life, Inc. is seeking an experienced and influential professional to serve as Secretary of the board. The board Secretary will support the Board of Directors by fostering communication and diligence through proper management and utilization of records, maintaining accurate documentation and meeting legal requirements such as meeting minutes, communication and annual filing deadlines.

Job Description

The Passion for Life, Inc Board ensures that the organization is fiscally responsible, accountable and sustainable. Another primary role of all Board Members is to assist with fundraising to ensure successful operational performance through leveraging of their network and contacts for the furthering of the organization's overall mission.

Primary responsibilities for the board Secretary include but are not limited to:

  • Meeting Planning and Communication: Work in conjunction with the Executive Director and Board President in planning monthly board meetings. The Secretary will also create and distribute the meeting agenda, accurately record and distribute meeting minutes, as well as, maintain contact list of board members including board member appointment dates, term of appointments and board member bios
  • Document Filing and Records Maintenance: Oversight of the organization’s incorporation and charitable registration status and the facilitation of all annual filings of required reports and information. Other documents may include board and committee meeting minutes, financial reports, lists of directors, board and other official records.
  • Time commitments and Accountabilities:
  • It is important that the candidate understands how much time it takes to serve on the Passion for Life, Inc board. Aside from regular meetings, board members are expected to lead at least one committee or project and participate in the fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Term: 2 years
  • Time (approximate): A minimum time commitment of 10-12 hours per month
  • Monthly board meetings (2 hours)
  • Participate in committee meetings and related work (3-5 hours per month as determined by the committee)
  • Identify and connect with individual donors, organizations and resources; meeting with potential donors/funders (3 hours monthly)
  • Attend Passion for Life, Inc. fundraising events and program functions (3-5 annually)
  • Qualifications
  • Passion and commitment to the organization’s mission and strategic directions
  • A commitment to and a clear understanding of our mission of the organization
  • Demonstrated success as a nonprofit board member or board
  • Knowledge of the meeting procedures, decision-making rules, governance policies and the bylaws of the organization
  • Proficiency in writing and Microsoft Office

Board Dues:

Board Members are required to pay annual dues
